From climate ambition to a clear strategic roadmap

With the publication of our first Climate Transition Plan (CTP), we have reached another important milestone on our sustainability journey. Building on our updated ESG strategy and externally validated climate targets, the CTP turns our climate ambitions into a clear roadmap for action and outlines how we plan to reduce our carbon footprint in the years ahead.

As Europe's leading omnichannel destination for premium beauty, we are part of millions of customers' daily routines. With that reach comes responsibility. Our Climate Transition Plan sets out the actions, targets, and measures that will help us contribute to a lower-carbon future while remaining transparent and accountable for our progress.

To mark the launch of the plan, we spoke with Ricarda Gallas, Senior Manager Group ESG, about the story behind the CTP, why it matters, and what it will take to bring it to life.

Ricarda, why is the Climate Transition Plan more than just another sustainability commitment? What makes it such an important step for the DOUGLAS Group?

The Climate Transition Plan is much more than a commitment. It documents publicly how the DOUGLAS Group takes responsibility. It turns our climate ambitions into concrete actions and gives us a clear roadmap for the years ahead. It helps us stay focused, measure our progress, and remain accountable for the commitments we have made. At the same time, it lays the foundation for our long-term ambition of reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Looking back, how would you describe the journey to publishing the Climate Transition Plan?

It has been an exciting and rewarding journey. The process began with the management board approval of our climate targets for 2030 in early 2026, followed by the external validation and publication later that year. From there, the focus shifted to defining how we can turn these ambitions into concrete actions.

One of the most valuable aspects of the project was the close collaboration across the business. Together with our clusters and central functions, we identified the initiatives that contribute most significantly to achieving our targets and incorporated them into the plan. We were fortunate to build on a strong foundation, as ESG Roadmaps had already been established across the organization. What makes the Climate Transition Plan particularly important is that it connects our externally recognized commitment into a transparent roadmap with clear targets and actions, allowing our stakeholders to track our progress and hold us accountable for delivering on our ambitions.

Overall, it was inspiring to contribute to such an important milestone in the DOUGLAS Group’s sustainability journey. Looking back, I am proud of what we achieved together and grateful for the strong collaboration that made this plan possible.

As an ESG expert, how do you look at climate change overall? What concerns you most, and what gives you hope?

I see climate change as a challenge that is no longer somewhere in the future. We can already see and feel its effects in our daily lives, whether through heatwaves, extreme weather events, droughts, or wildfires across Europe and many other regions. What concerns me most is that these impacts are becoming more frequent and severe, affecting communities, ecosystems, and economies alike.

At the same time, I am encouraged by the fact that more companies, governments, and individuals have already recognized the need to act and are translating commitments into concrete measures. That gives me hope. I am particularly proud that the DOUGLAS Group is taking responsibility through our Climate Transition Plan, which sets a clear direction for reducing our emissions and contributing to a more sustainable future. For me, this shows that meaningful action is possible when ambition is backed by concrete steps.
